Bear Robotics has developed a server robot capable of performing repetitive tasks, such as delivering meals to tables. It uses precise GPS mapping to navigate, has a limited vocabulary but can sing Happy Birthday!
In July, three department heads traveled to Arlington to see a server robot in action at lunchtime. They were impressed with the demonstration and felt this technology could work on our campus. To assist our staff and enhance the dining experience for our residents, SVWC has partnered with Bear Robotics to test a robot in our dining services department to bring meals to the Bistro dining room. The robot is currently delivering about 50 meals a day. After 30 days, we will decide whether to keep the robot. We stress that the robot is not replacing staff, only assisting staff with meal delivery. As with any new service or program, we appreciate the residents’ feedback.
