More than 30 years ago, parishioners at the Christ Episcopal Church in Winchester, Virginia, saw a need and set a goal to create a first-class retirement community. They adopted the Westminster-Canterbury model, where both the Episcopal and Presbyterian churches share sponsorship.
The family of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Lawrence, Jr. (pictured above), who were members of First Presbyterian Church in Winchester, Virginia, generously donated land for our beautiful campus, which grew with subsequent purchases to 65 acres.
Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury welcomed its first residents.
Additional acres of adjacent land was purchased, which now brings us to 87 acres. Many of the original leaders or members of their families remain active and support the mission and vision of our community to this day.
